Do I have to pay to use a mortgage broker?
A common misconception is that using a mortgage broker is expensive. In most cases, that's not true.
For the majority of home loans, mortgage brokers are paid by the lender once your loan settles, meaning there is typically no direct cost to you for our services.
Upfront commission
When your loan settles, the lender generally pays us a one off upfront commission. This is usually between 0.65% and 0.70% of the loan amount (plus GST), although the exact amount varies between lenders.
Ongoing commission
Many lenders also pay an ongoing commission, commonly known as a trail commission. This is generally around 0.15% per annum and is calculated on your outstanding loan balance. As your loan balance reduces over time, the trail commission also decreases.
